The Skyscraper Safety Campaign Renews Call for a Katrina Commission -
Supports the call of Sen. Hillary Clinton & others to act immediately

In the wake of the glaring emergency response failures seen during the disaster still unfolding along the gulf coast, the Skyscraper Safety Campaign (SSC) calls on President Bush to immediately initiate the process of creating a "Katrina Commission" to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the disaster.

As a 9/11 organization dedicated to improving public safety and the effectiveness of emergency responders in order that they may best serve the general public, the SSC is deeply concerned about our national emergency preparedness and our nation's ability to face future disasters, including terrorist attacks. We ask the Bush administration to quickly assemble a non-partisan panel of independent subject matter experts - not politicians - to comprise the commission.

We further urge that this commission include academics as well as experienced and credentialed technical professionals such as those associated with the Skyscraper Safety Campaign.

The SSC implores President Bush to ensure that the commission is fully funded, has a clear yet comprehensive mandate, and investigates all the failure and successes at all levels of government.
