Kean-Hamilton Statement on 9/11 Commission Aviation Monograph
Thomas H. Kean and Lee H. Hamilton, former Chair and Vice Chair of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (9/11 Commission), today released the following statement:
Today the National Archives and Records Administration re-released the 9/11 Commission’s third Staff Monograph, “The Four Flights and Civil Aviation Security.” The document was originally submitted by the Commission to the administration in August 2004 for classification review. The National Archives and Records Administration received the document with substantial redactions on January 28, 2005.
Today’s re-release of this important document, absent many of the initial redactions, follows a review undertaken by the administration pursuant to our request. We appreciate the administration’s additional efforts to make this information publicly available. While we still believe that the entire document could be made available to the public without damaging national security, we welcome this step forward.
The additional detail provided in this version of the monograph will make a further contribution to the public record of the facts and circumstances of the 9/11 attacks established by the final report of the 9/11 Commission.
