Dear Members and Friends,

We are writing today to remind you of a pending deadline concerning the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The VCF provides monetary compensation for people who suffered physical harm or were killed as a result of the 9/11 plane crashes and building collapses as well as the cleanup efforts that took place in the immediate aftermath.

WTC responders, survivors, and neighborhood residents, workers and students can file claims for economic loss due to WTC physical health impacts. (Please note: the VCF only covers physical health impacts. Mental health impacts are not compensated.)

While the fund is accepting claims until October 2016, you must be registered in the system no later than midnight October 3, 2013. If you plan to file a claim for an already existing physical illness or think you may need to file a claim in the future, you must register on the VCF website by the October 3, 2013 deadline.

If you cannot register on the website, you can call 1-855-885-1555 to get the registration materials mailed to you.

For more information, see our web page, World Trade Center Health Programs, for a list of links and applications.

You should also be aware of the continuing availability of the World Trade Center Health Program established by the James Zadroga 9/11 Bill in 2010.

This program provides medical and mental health care to Responders and Survivor affected by the WTC disaster at no out-of-pocket cost. Survivors are defined as those who lived, worked or went to school or daycare south of Houston Street or in Brooklyn within 1.5 miles of the WTC site. Survivors still living in and around NYC are treated at the WTC Environmental Health Centers located in Bellevue, Gouverneur, and Elmhurst Hospitals.

Those living outside of the NYC area have access to a nationwide network of providers. For information about the nationwide provider network call 1-888-982-4748. (See the CDC Website, World Trade Center Heath Program.)

If you are a survivor and have a physical or mental health issue you think may be related to 9/11, you may be eligible for the WTC Health Program. You do NOT have to have been previously enrolled in the WTC Health Registry or registered with or have a claim with the VCF.

For more information, see the WTC Health Program information page.
