Dear Editor,

A 9/14/13 article in the Advance (Staten Island's Empire Outlets and New York Wheel get OK's) proudly proclaims that the much-debated, gargantuan NY Wheel " sailed through the NYC Planning Commission."

As 9/11 family members and Vice Chair of " 9/11 Parents & Families of Firefighters and WTC Victims" I have called Dennis McKeon a friend to us and the WTC families for the past 12 years. I agree with his deep concerns regarding the wisdom of placing the mega Wheel in such close proximity to the Postcards Memorial.

I hope that all our good friends and relatives in Staten Island will heed his sage advice - and proceed with great caution to ensure that the peace, sanctity and honor of the "Postcards 9/11 Memorial" will be safeguarded. Please don't let the S.I. memorial turn into the "memorial industrial complex/ tourist destination" that the WTC memorial has become. We have lost control of the memorial at GZ - instead, greed, commercial development, rampant tourism and a freakish environment surround the hallowed ground. Protecting the S.I. memorial is the least that should be done for S.I.'s 274 victims, and the loved ones that were left behind to live without them.

Sincerely,
Sally & Al Regenhard, NYC
