Contest to find and honor great teachers. Please take a few minutes to read and review this
information about the contest and please submit your nominations today.

* Nomination must be received by 11:59 pm on July 19, 2013.

As you may have heard, the Daily News has teamed up with the United
Federation of Teachers, the Council of School Supervisors & Administrators
and the Department of Education on a new awards program to honor city
educators called Hometown Heroes in Education. It's meant to bring positive
attention to heroic K-12 educators of all types, from all kinds of NYC
schools. The award will recognize educators who display generosity,
compassion, dedication, selflessness and ingenuity. Their achievements could
include educating students facing exceptional difficulties, creating an
innovative program, organizing fund-raisers, or some other exceptional act.
Any educator who has direct contact with students is eligible.

Ten winners will be honored at a Sept. 19 awards breakfast hosted by NY1
anchor Pat Kiernan and attended by Dennis Walcott, Michael Mulgrew and other
leaders in education and media.

We're now accepting nominees, and that's why I'm reaching out to you. We
need access to the finest teachers, principals, and other educators in the
city. Please nominate them so that we can recognize them for the good work
they do. Please share this with others, your staff and friends and family,
so that they can recognize educators in their lives as well.

Here's how to nominate a special educator for a Hometown Heroes award:

* Submit a nomination either by email, letter, or fax.

* For email submissions, send to hometownheroeseducation@nydailynews.com
<mailto>

* For mail-in submissions, send to "Daily News Hometown Heroes in
Education", P.O. Box 5042, New York, NY 10274

* For fax submissions, send to the attention of "Daily News Hometown Heroes

* Nomination must include the nominator's contact information (including
name and an e-mail address or phone number), the name of the educator being
nominated, the nominee's position and school, and a brief description of why
the nominee deserves an award.

* Nomination must be received by 11:59 pm on July 19, 2013.
