SHORT FILM: ENERGY INDEPENDENCE WITHOUT FRACKING
Can you imagine not worrying about destructive storms wrecking electric power lines? Can you envision not having to pay a monthly bill to the utility company for your electric power? At the October 2011 TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) Global Conference, Mr. Justin Hall-Tipping (entrepreneur and founder of Nanoholdings) explained how incorporating a pair of transparent film into our windowpanes would enable each home to generate the needed electric power, regardless of climatic conditions. We will show the video of Mr. Hall-Tipping’s presentation of his revolutionary concept.
GUEST SPEAKER: JAMES SCARCELLA OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION
TOPIC: STATEN ISLAND'S ECOLOGY AND EDUCATION
Do you desire to explore the ecology of our beaches, the tidal marshes, and of the harbor estuary--including taking a virtual tour of underwater life? Do you want to examine the developing conflict between the shipping industry’s economic requirements for growth and the preservation our marine environment? Do you want to know why it is necessary for Staten Islanders to participate in keeping our shore area clean? Do you consider it important to create a new generation of environmentalists who will assist us in adapting to the challenges of climate change? Mr. Scarcella’s talk will focus upon these issues. Mr. Scarcella began his environmental career about 24 years ago upon joining the SI Friends of Clearwater, the Protectors of the Pine Oak Woods and Baykeeper of NY/NJ. He is a founding member of the Mariners Marsh Conservancy, the Coalition for South Beach Pond Park Preserve (Bluebelt), and the North Shore Waterfront Conservancy of SI Inc. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods, the Fishermen’s Conservation Association, Baykeeper of NY/NJ, and the SI Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution have honored him for his environmental advocacy and action.
