To All,

Below is a letter that was sent to families yesterday by mail regarding this year's 9/11 anniversary from Joe Daniels of the 9/11 Memorial

I have also included articles from today’s papers.

Dear Family Member:

As the eleventh anniversary of September 11 approaches, we hope that you will join us to honor all those we lost in the attacks of 2001 and 1993. By coming together as a community, we aim to provide a sense of healing as we remember and reflect on those solemn days.

The commemoration on this year's anniversary will be held at the National September 11 Memorial (9/11 Memorial), which is located at the World Trade Center site in New York City. We will once again pause six times during our observance, representing the moments each tower was struck and fell, and the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and Flight 93. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 a.m., and we encourage houses of worship to toll their bells at that time. This year, the reading of the names by family members will be the exclusive focus of the program. As in previous years, music will provide a poignant backdrop to the day. The commemoration will conclude at approximately 12:00 p.m., and the 9/11 Memorial will remain open to family members until 8:00 p.m. The "Tribute in Light" will return at sundown. This powerful symbol will carry us through the night and into the next day.

Family members of victims from the 2001 and 1993 attacks are invited to participate in this year's reading of the names. If you are a family member who would like to read, or would like to suggest another family member to participate in the reading of the names, please email cferer@cityhall.nyc.gov or call (212) 442-8953 by Friday, August 3. Please keep in mind that you will be required to leave your name, telephone number, and the name and contact information for the person you are recommending. Participants will be selected by lottery and notified directly.

We will send you a letter in August that will provide updated information and more details on the observance, as well as an official invitation. Please note that the second letter and invitation will serve as your credentials for admittance on that morning. Until then, please feel free to call (212) 442-8953 if you have any questions.

Thank you for joining us as we lead the nation in a day of remembrance.

Warm regards,

Joe Daniels
President & CEO
