Dear 9/11 Family Members,

Thanks to all who have participated in my study so far! We have 74 participates but need 270 for a valid study. If you have not taken the survey, please do so ASAP because the survey will be closing soon. Please ask your friends who lost a loved one in 9/11 to participate as well. We want to know how you are doing and what your perceptions are of the mental health system now and after 9/11. There is a special need for those from India and South Korea to respond.

We are requesting that your group participate in a research study. Please take your time to read the information below and feel free to ask any questions before agreeing to participate in this study.

Title: Perceptions of the United States Mental Health System for Those Who Sought Treatment Post-9/11: A Mixed Methods Proposal with a Cross-Cultural Perspective

Investigators: Cathryn L. Leff, PhD Candidate, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology

Purpose: This study is being conducted to assess how the mental health system responded in helping those after the 9/11 terrorists attacks. This survey will assess your perceptions of the care you received, as well as address issues of costs and accessibility. A follow-up face-to-face interview will follow the survey some time later, for those willing to participate. Twelve individuals will be chosen from two nationalities to expand further on the survey for clarification purposes and assess any cross-cultural differences in perception of the United States mental health system.

Procedures: The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The demographic survey will begin with basic questions about your age, ethnicity, income range, education, etc., and will then proceed with questions regarding your visit(s) to a mental health professional if you sought treatment. If you did not seek treatment, then you have completed the survey. Follow the link below to complete the survey, and indicate if you are willing to participate in a face-to-face interview for a more in-depth response. The in-depth semi-structured interview will take approximately one hour at a mutually agreed upon location or via Skype.

Attached is the consent form and additional information about the study. Completing the survey verifies your consent in participating in this study.

Thank you so much for your participation!!
