Dear Family Member:

In one week, we will dedicate the National September 11 Memorial. I want to thank you for everything you've done to make this a reality. No aspect of our work is more important than paying tribute to the memory of your loved ones and we feel honored that many of you have shared with us your thoughts and memories over the years. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you again as we approach that important day.

Ceremony Visitation

As per the 9/11 Memorial, the final, detailed information regarding the 10th anniversary commemoration ceremony has been sent out. This information, which followed on the letter you received from the City and State of New York in July, was sent in an envelope as pictured below, with the official 9/11 Memorial logo in the upper left corner.

The envelope includes an invitation that may be used as your credential for you and your family (only one credential per family group is needed). I want to assure you that nothing has changed from years past in terms of access to the ceremony. If for some reason you did not receive the mailing, please know that the same procedures are in place and you may mention a P or T number if you do not have an invitation with you.

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. The reading of the names will begin after the first citywide moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. After the second moment of silence, family members will be able to access the Memorial and see their loved ones' names inscribed in bronze for the first time. The program will conclude at approximately 1:00 p.m., and the 9/11 Memorial will remain open to families until 4:00 p.m.

Families will be able to begin checking in at 6:30 a.m. The entrance will be at the intersection of West Broadway and Murray Street. Families with special needs may check in at the intersection of West Broadway and Barclay Street.

We suggest you arrive as early as possible to allow extra time for security screening. All attendees must bring a photo ID and go through screening before entering the World Trade Center site. All bags will be subject to search by law enforcement. We strongly discourage bringing large items such as backpacks and duffle bags.

The Family Room at One Liberty Plaza, the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, the Tribute Center, the FDNY Memorial Wall, and Memorial Park will also be open on September 11, 2011.

Since the surrounding area is still under construction, please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, and dress appropriately in the event of inclement or hot and sunny weather.

Restrooms and water will be available. Please note that there will be no seating. Accommodations will be made, however, for family members with special needs.

Transportation to the Ceremony

As parking is extremely limited near the site, the City of New York recommends taking public transportation to the ceremony and has provided the following updates:

* MTA- The R train will bypass Cordlandt Street station from 7:00 a.m. to early afternoon. For families taking the R train, we recommend you use the City Hall Station to access the family entry point. For bus and other subway routes, please visit www.mta.info for updates.

* PATH- PATH will suspend service to and from the World Trade Center and restricted access to the WTC PATH Station from approximately 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

* As other transportation updates become available, we will share them with you.

Please call (212) 442-8953 or email cferer@cityhall.nyc.gov should you have any questions in advance of the ceremony.

Names on the Memorial

At the ceremony itself, we will provide you with a guide to help you find your loved one's name for the first time. I also encourage you to visit the website names.911memorial.org/ in advance of the anniversary. This website, the Memorial Guide, will help you to find your loved one's name and explore the entire names arrangement. The program is now available as an iPhone app and will be available in electronic directories at the Memorial. Android and Windows Phone versions of the app will soon be available. I hope viewing the Memorial Guide will help your experience on the anniversary, or whenever you choose to visit.

I encourage you to forward this note to other family members. If you know of families who would like to be added to our contact list, please encourage them to email their information to contactinfo@911memorial.org. If you have any questions about the Memorial Guide or the names arrangement, please feel free to call us at 1-877-671-1636 (toll free).

We continue to keep you and the memory of your loved ones in our thoughts, and I hope you will join us next Sunday.
