9/11 NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE

FOR 9/11 FAMILY MEMBERS, FIRST RESPONDERS & THE PUBLIC

AT THE FOOD BANK FOR WESTCHESTER



WHEN: Wednesday, September 7, 2011

10:00 am -12:00 noon ET



WHAT: In observance of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, 9/11 family members, first responders, rescue workers, and members of the public to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Volunteers will pack fresh produce for Project Green Thumb, a program that benefits thousands of Westchester residents who are hungry or food insecure.



WHERE: Food Bank for Westchester, 358 Saw Mill River Rd., Millwood, NY 10546



WHO: Participants will include 9/11 family members, first responders and/or rescue workers, and members of the public who wish to participate.

Special guests will be announced.

ABOUT THE FOOD BANK FOR WESTCHESTER: One of eight food banks in New York State, the Food Bank for Westchester is the supply and support center for 227 frontline hunger-relief agencies throughout the county. With the help of volunteers, funders, and food donors, the Food Bank acquires and distributes more than seven million pounds of food annually, providing 95% of all the food distributed by food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, child and adult day-care and residential centers, and other hunger-relief programs throughout Westchester. ABOUT 9/11 DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE: The annual 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is a day when individuals, not-for-profit organizations, corporations, schools and other groups around the world observe the anniversary of 9/11 by taking time to engage in charitable service in tribute to the victims of 9/11 and all those who rose in service in response to the attacks. MyGoodDeed and HandsOn Network, the volunteer activation division of Points of Light Institute, are leading an influential coalition of organizations that are working together to plan and implement the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance for the 10th anniversary of 9/11, with the goal of organizing the single largest day of charitable service in U.S. history.
