|Fr. Brian Jordan invites the WTC community to participate in the below ceremony.
WHAT: Moving the Steel Beam Cross currently on the Church Street side of St. Peter's Church to the 9/11 Memorial Museum
WHEN: Saturday, July 23 at 9:30 A.M.
WHERE: Zuccotti Park, corner of Liberty and Church Streets
There will be a special transfer ceremony and blessing on the corner of Church and Liberty Streets starting at 9:30 A.M.. At 10 A.M. the Cross officially goes into the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
The Cross was a source of spiritual solace throughout the months it stood at the WTC site. Whether one came to it every time remains were found while it stood in the midst of the rubble, joined the services officiated by Fr. Jordan each Sunday when it stood atop the fire rig on West and then when it was moved to the Church Street side of the site, or simply sat beneath it in quiet contemplation...the Cross was the spiritual center of Ground Zero. No matter what one's faith was...Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic or Atheist...we all gathered weekly at its foot to find strength and support as we bore each other's burdens. We were not divided by denominations nor beliefs.
Many of us who regularly participated in the weekly services and who later became the foundational core of the Ground Zero Fellowship often expressed our desire to have the Cross be a part of the permanent memorial.
On behalf of the multitude in our 9/11 community who yearned to see this day happen, I'd like to thank Fr. Brian Jordan for his tireless efforts in making it a reality.
