Unique partnership between nonprofit arts organization and over-55 boutique condominium brings graffiti art mural to Staten Island
The Club at Clove Lakes Park and NycArtsCypher are collaborating to create a one-of-a-kind mural on the 140 foot construction fence at the Club’s boutique condominium project.
Wayne Miller, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for The Club at Clove Lakes Park, described the project as “an arts meets business concept that brings a new work of public art into the community.”
Miller continued by saying, “When I first became involved in this project, I drove past the site and saw a typical safety fence. But I also saw an opportunity to display a new type of art. I knew that Charlie Balducci and the NycArtsCypher would be the perfect partners. The mural will be a bold billboard for the condominium project and an outlet for the talent of his team of artists.”
The mural will be designed by professional artists working with teenagers selected from the NycArtsCypher ’s Mural Program. The Mural Program gives teens an outlet to practice graffiti art in a responsible manner. They are educated on the consequences of vandalism, and guided to develop their skills in a positive way. The NycArtsCypher is a nonprofit organization founded by Balducci in 2005 and its mission is to promote positive values through arts and entertainment. The organization creates programs, projects and events within the urban arts focused on teenagers aged 14 to 18. At the 2010 Staten Island film Festival the NycArtsCypher won “Best Documentary Short” for the MURAL documentary, which followed the beginning of the program. Balducci states “The Club is giving NycArtsCypher an amazing opportunity to show the NYC community what the kids from our program can do.”
The final design will be developed in a workshop setting involving the young people, professional artists, and representatives from The Club. The base palette will be provided by Dennis Mckeon, and his not for profit, Where to Turn. The mural, to be located at 982 Clove Road, is scheduled to be painted on April 3rd, weather permitting.
The Club at Clove Lakes Park is Staten Island’s premier over-55 boutique condominium and offers one- and two-bedroom residences in a secure setting with a host of amenities including a roof-top terrace, health and fitness facilities, a 4 season lap pool, electronic security, virtual doorman and concierge, and full time Resident Assistant.
