Sanitation Update: Sanitation Resumes Limited Garbage Collection Around City
The New York City Department of Sanitation announced today that it will resume limited garbage collection around the city on Monday, January 3rd.
Those who normally receive Monday collections should place all of their garbage bags, pails and containers out at curbside on Sunday night. The Department will not be collecting recyclables until further notice. Residents can also place out their discarded Christmas trees for pickup.
Commissioner John J. Doherty asks that residents clear a path for Sanitation crews to collect the garbage. If bags and pails are buried under the snow, they should be dug out so crews can have access to them.
Commissioner Doherty said trucks have already been out emptying litter baskets around the city.
The Commissioner also said that Sanitation trucks have started to collect garbage dumpsters from housing developments across the city and other trucks will be making garbage pickups at other large apartment buildings on Sunday.
"We are able to resume garbage pickups now that significant progress has been made in clearing away the aftermath of last Sunday's massive blizzard," said Commissioner Doherty. "The cleanup will take some time, but we are pleased to be able to resume providing this essential service to the public."
Residents wishing to report any remaining snow conditions are asked to call 311.
