Statement of Reps. Maloney & Nadler on Release

of Funding for 9/11 Health Study

New York, NY U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler, authors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, today applauded the Obama Administrations release of funding to complete the third of three planned health surveys of the more than 71,000 people enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Registry and to look at the risk of cancers among enrollees. The purpose of this third wave survey is to track the health of and identify new health conditions affecting those who were exposed to Ground Zero toxins.

Its good news that the administration has released the funds to complete a third wave study of the health effects of the 9/11 attacks and to determine whether 9/11 responders and survivors are facing an increase in cancers, as is the concern of many in the medical community. Updating our information on 9/11 health conditions will enable doctors to deliver the best possible care to those who lost their health because of the toxins at Ground Zero.

We are grateful for the Obama Administrations support of this vital study and of our bill to provide comprehensive, guaranteed health care and access to compensation for 9/11 responders and survivors.
