Hello All,

Below are two LINKS to short video's produced by the North Shore Waterfront Conservancy of Staten Island ( http://www.nswcsi.org ).... The NSWC is a small non-profit on Staten Island, and of all places The North Shore of Staten Island. It is a very small group of dedicated volunteers that are trying to get control of the environmental travesty that has taken place on shoreline and surrounding neighborhoods for the past century....On Staten Island's Gold Coast as it was known

One of their missions is to educate citizens of what actually has been done on this shoreline, and what are the possible paths of some sort of remediation of these sites, The President/Executive Director of the NSWC is a woman named Beryl Thurman. I know Beryl personally, and I can tell you she is truly a good honest person, and I have assisted her in many of the challenge's that non-profit, grassroots groups face when going head-to-head with large corporations that have deep pockets, and rooms full of Lawyers...

As with all volunteers that get wrapped up with a particular project, Ms. Thurman has been consumed with her commitment to protecting the coastal environment of Staten Island, and during her time at NSWC she has learned about the governments "Environmental Justice" relatively new, laws and regulations. She has worked tirelessly for the past few years identifying the toxic mess that is concentrated on 5 miles of Staten Island's North Shore, on the Arthur Kill and Kill Van Kull, The waterways that separate Staten Island and the "Chemical Coast" of New Jersey....

The hardest thing that a grass roots organization has to do, is getting information out to the Public, It is very expensive, it is boring to most, and getting a newspaper to write about a 70 year old nuclear spill in a low income neighborhood is almost impossible.....Until Beryl Thurman found out about You-Tube, and remembered that old video camera in the closet that is !

Ms. Thurman took her knowledge of hazard waste sites in our neighborhoods to the streets, and has been informing her neighbors of the lead in their neighborhood park, the radioactive waste that is only surrounded by a chain link fence to keep children from entering the area on the way to the waterfront to fish, there are many, many other projects that Beryl has worked on to try to bring some safety to the daily live's of Staten Islander's, But this first posting on YouTube is great, Her and her "team" have found a way to dispense the information that they have been gathering for the past few years. This is their first posting on YouTube, But I am sure with practice their video's will only get better!

Hey People, Don't forget to pass the video's on...... The NY Government has known about these sites for some time, and have done NOTHING for years, The Suddoto Ice Cream Plant where the lead is, is in it's 1st stage of getting cleaned up thanks to Ms. Thurman, but Veterans Park still has children playing in it, and the radioactive waste on the waterfront still sits there, with a city bus stop right across the street !!!!!!!!

Thanks Beryl, For all you do.......... And if you do leave NSWC in July, You will be missed............
