|The following was sent to Alex Zablocki as a possible plan to save Pouch Camp.
It was reported in todayís New York Daily News that Mayor Bloomberg is coming up with $55 million to support the Brooklyn Bridge Park Project.
If he can find money for that project it is hard to believe that he cannot find money to save Pouch camp.
Also if this is really about the Boy Scouts being in financial trouble and the city/state not having the money at this time might I recommend the following compromise.
Determine the actual value of the site.
For this example letís say itís $30 million.
Agree to a plan where the city/state would purchase the land over time from the Boy Scouts.
In this example it could be set up following one of these plans
$1 million a year over 30 years
$2 million a year over 15 years
$5 million a year over 6 years.
Under any of these scenarios the city/state would not have to lay out all of the money at once.
Also the Boy Scouts would have a guarantee income over the term of the agreement to cover their current cash flow problem.
Details could be built in to allow the Boy Scouts to continue to use the property over the term of the agreement.
Future use could also be worked out when the property is turned over to the city/state or Parks Department when payment is completed.
I believe that this type of compromise agreement would satisfy both sides and enable us to save Pouch Camp.
Please let me know what you think.
