Pasta Drive

Principal Deirdre De Angelis of New Dorp HS asked everyone who was attending this year’s sing to donate some pasta and did they respond.

Today Deidre and her husband dropped off 110 pounds of pasta for our food drive

That brings our total to

480 cans of clam sauce

450 pounds of pasta

So we only need to collect 30 more pounds of pasta to supply 480 meals (for four people)

Deirdre also said that her students will donate any extra toys they receive after they take care of their families in need to the Where to Turn toy drive.

Also they are going to promote the Snow Shoveling for Seniors Program and will once again get all of their students involved in the Re-Gifting for a Good Cause program right after the Holiday Break.

Our thanks to Deidre and all of the students at New Dorp and we hope your example is followed by the other schools on Staten Island.

Snow Shoveling for Seniors

We currently have 325 students registered which is a little behind where we were last year at this time.

Unfortunately we only have 10 schools with 10 or more participants and seniors (2,500 and counting) continue to call.

Follow up letters are going out to all schools asking them to promote the program.

Please get your school more involved.

Restoration of Asbury Methodist Cemetery

We had 17 members of Where to Turn out at the cemetery this morning and we cleaned another whole section and uncovered some additional tombstones.

Unfortunately bad weather cut the day short but we will be back out there again next week and as long as the weather permits.

Click the link below to see some photos of our progress.

Toy Drive

Toys continue to come in and we will pock up the toys from the Notre Dame and St. Johns University toy drives next week.

We will continue to collect right up until Christmas.

We have been contacted by a few people about families in need and are also making arrangements to make sure every child in the hospital over the holidays gets a toy.

If you know of any family in need or would like to donate please let us know.

We are still looking for donations to purchase gift cards and movie tickets for older siblings

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a Load Off

We just reached 100 participants.

If the average weight loss is 10 pounds per participant that would mean $1,000 for the food pantry.

Our goal is to get sponsors to match.

We will continue to register participants and reach out for sponsors.
