Lower Manhattan
Street Closures for September 11, 2009

(as of September 4, 2009)

Due to September 11th commemoration events over the next week, the city will be implementing street, bridge, park, and sidewalk closures to accommodate pedestrian traffic downtown.

The city’s ceremony will take place in Zuccotti Park, at Broadway and Liberty Street, beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Because vehicle and pedestrian access in the immediate area of Zuccotti Park will be very limited, Lower Manhattan residents, employees are advised to use public transportation whenever possible to stations outside of the event area. Business owners are advised to avoid scheduling deliveries and to minimize car pickups on September 11, 2009 until after 5:00pm.

Following is a list of planned downtown closures for the week.

 Zuccotti Park, the site of memorial events for victims’ families, will be partly closed starting September 7, 2009 at 7:00pm, with full closure beginning on midnight on September 11th through September 12, 2009 at midnight.

 Liberty Street between Broadway and Church Street will be closed on September 7, 2009 at 7:00pm through Friday, September 12, 2009 at midnight. Pedestrian access will be limited.

 The Liberty Street pedestrian bridge will be closed from midnight on September 11 at through midnight on September 12. Pedestrians should use the Vesey Street Bridge or cross at grade via Albany and Carlisle Streets.

 Albany Street and Carlisle Street between Greenwich and West Streets will be closed to vehicles on September 11th and will be open to pedestrians only.

 Thames Street between Broadway and Greenwich Street will be closed to vehicles on September 11th and will be open to pedestrians only.

 Cedar Street between Broadway and Church Street/Trinity Place will be closed from September 9, 2009 through midnight on September 12, 2009. Pedestrian access will be limited.

 Church Street/Trinity Place between Battery Place and Barclay Street will be closed to both parking and traffic on September 11 from midnight to approximately 4:00pm. Traffic will be diverted to West Street.

 Cortlandt, Dey, Fulton, and Vesey Streets between Broadway and Church Street will be closed to vehicles on September 11, 2009 from midnight to 4:00pm. Parking on Cortlandt Street will be suspended starting September 7, 2009 at 7:00pm.

 Murray Street from West to Greenwich Streets, Greenwich Street from Warren to Barclay Streets, and Park Place from West Broadway to Greenwich Street and West Broadway from Warren to Barclay Streets will remain open on September 11, 2009 but parking will be restricted. Pedestrian access will be permitted.

 Barclay Street (from Broadway to Church) and Warren Street (from West Street to Broadway) will remain open on September 11th but parking will be restricted. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Please note that West Street and Broadway will be the prime uptown and downtown traffic thoroughfares on September 11th from midnight to 4:00pm. Please allow extra time for travel in Lower Manhattan.
