|SAVE THE DATE NOTICE FOR COMMEMORATIVE EVENT
ON THE EVENING OF 9/11/09
Dear 9/11 Family Members:
As you may know, the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks will officially and permanently become a “National Day of Service and Remembrance” this year, under a new federal law passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Obama in April 2009. For many of us, this represents a major, lasting honor for those lost, while establishing for the nation a meaningful and productive way forward from the horror of the 9/11 events.
To commemorate this historic legislation, and to honor the 9/11 community, MyGoodDeed.org will co-host with ServiceNation a very special tribute event the evening of September 11, 2009. It will be staged at the famed Beacon Theater in New York City. The event will feature live musical performances along with presentations by prominent national and regional government officials, service industry workers and leaders and others – all in honor of those lost and injured, their family members and those who rose in service during and after the attacks. Presenter details and other info will be announced in the coming days.
LATER THIS WEEK WE WILL ANNOUNCE THROUGH THIS LIST-SERVE THE WEBSITE LINK YOU’LL NEED TO USE TO REGISTER YOUR REQUEST FOR ONE OR TWO TICKETS. YOU’LL THEN HAVE UNTIL WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009, 5:00 PM ET TO COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION REQUEST.
Tickets to this important and memorable event will be free of charge, the majority of which will be made available on a preferential basis to the families of 9/11 victims, those injured in the attacks, first responders and others who participated in the rescue and recovery efforts, 9/11 volunteers, military service personnel and public safety officers.
The tickets will be issued through a lottery system to those who qualify, i.e., members of the 9/11 community. You’ll be able to request one ticket for yourself and one for a guest of your choosing. Names will then be selected randomly. You will be notified within a few days thereafter whether or not you have been selected to receive tickets, and those receiving tickets will be provided with additional information about when to arrive and what they’ll need to bring, i.e., photo ID. Please note: The window for registering a request for tickets will be open until Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 5:00 PM ET. After that you may not be able to request tickets to this event.
There will be a heavy security requirement because of the prominence of the expected presenters and performers, which means that ticket holders will need to check in prior to the start of the event at the venue that day, and present their government issued-IDs, which must match the names registered for the event. Tickets cannot be sold or transferred.
Please watch for this follow-up email VERY SOON with information about how to access the “9/11 Community Request for Tickets Registration Page.”
Thanks, as always, for your support of the nonprofit 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance initiative.
