To our closest friends and advisors,

I am very pleased to provide all of you with an advance preview of the story that is breaking online today in Newsweek ( http://www.newsweek.com/id/188270), reporting for the very first time that 9/11 is expected to be formally designated as a National Day of Service and Remembrance by Congress this year. The article reveals the key provisions of the important House of Representatives' GIVE Act, which will be introduced Monday by Rep. George Miller. Shortly thereafter the Senate is expected to pass the companion Kennedy-Hatch bill, which we believe will also include the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance provision thanks to an amendment that will be introduced by Senator Charles Schumer next week. If passed the President is expected to sign this historic legislation as soon as April. We still have considerable work to do over the next few days and weeks to ensure passage of these vitally important national service bills, and later to secure an appropriation (funding) to support the 9/11 observance in particular. But regardless we are all on the cusp of a truely historic moment worth celebrating -- one that will establish in perpetuity a constructive and forward-looking legacy that pays tribute to the lives of the 9/11 victims and the efforts of the 9/11 volunteers and rescue and recovery workers. Should we been successful in establishing this national observance, years from now millions and millions of Americans will voluntarily perform good deeds and other forms of community service on the anniversary of 9/11 each year -- reflecting on the events and lessons of 9/11 and rekindling at least for one day the spirit of unity that we all shared in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. It will most certainly take many years and considerable effort to build participation in this observance, but today we are closer than ever to making this dream a reality.

On behalf of Jay Winuk, my co-founder and close friend, I'd like to thank you again for all your support.
