Thursday, February 19, 2009, Meeting Notes


1. Greetings….

2. Treasurer’s Report

3. Short Term Projects:
· NSWC SI Educational Boat Tours tentatively to be held in April 2009.
· We=2 0are also looking for office space and expanding our board and membership
· NSWC is participating on the DEC’s Sea Level Rising Task Force a final report from this task force has to be submitted to the NYS legislature by December of 2009.
On Going Projects
· NSWC is also serving on a number of DEC and DOS (Department of State) Inter- Agency Task Forces to help to update policies, procedures, guidelines and laws so that they are more inclusive of Environmental Justice Communities.
· NSWC is also participating on a committee with New York New Jersey Port Authority in regards to their Ports to reduce their air pollution emissions before 2012.
· NSWC is participating on the Steering Committee for Staten Island Visions
· NSWC is participating on the Committee for NYC Economic Development Corporation and NYC City Planning Commission’s North Shore Land use and Transportation Study.

4. US Army Corp of Engineers has contacted the media to say they intend on blasting another 50 feet in the Kill Van Kull. We are asking that before they do anything that they meet with NSWC and residents to set down some procedures and policies so that the residential communities are not as impacted as with previous blasting and dredging projects.
