First Family Fitness Calendar
January 3 & 4
Create a personal fitness calendar setting healthy goals for the family, including exercises and tasty recipes. Then, using pictures of fruits & veggies, create a cover for your calendar in the style of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.
Saturday and Sunday - 1, 2 & 3 p.m.


Flights of inspiration
January 10 & 11
Learn about Amelia Earhart (the first lady in flight) & the Wright Brothers (who created and flew the first airplane) then create a collage about their flights and destinations.
Saturday and Sunday - 1, 2 & 3 p.m

The Zoo Too!
January 10
Our friends from the Staten Island Zoo will stop by with some zoo friends (a chinchilla and a corn snake). While visiting find out about the dual Staten Island Children's Museum - Staten Island Zoo membership.
Saturday - 2 to 3 p.m.


This Day in History - Inauguration Day 2009
January 17 & 18
The Presidential Inauguration is in just a few days. Write headlines documenting this important historic event and make a souvenir newspaper to take home.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin & Eric Carle
January 24 & 25
Listen to the poem and imagine the sounds different animals make. Then, create a puppet while learning about the mighty polar bear.

Prognosticating People!
January 31/ February 1
Winter or Spring? Create a game spinner/dial and then see where the arrow lands. Will we have six more weeks of winter or an early spring?

Family Passport
January 31
A multicultural program sponsored by the TD Foundation.
Pink Diamond, the award winning, Afro-American Step Dancing Team will demonstrate step dancing for our visitors highlighting their various step routines.

What's Cooking in January?

Cooking is a great way for kids to learn about nutrition, teamwork, making good choices, and just being creative and having fun. And, young chefs are more willing to try new foods if they’ve cooked them.
January 2 – Oven Baked Carrot Fries

January 16 – Oatmeal Cookies
January 23 – Ice Smoothies
January 30 – Peach Cobbler
Friday- cooking begins at 1:30, 2:30 & 3:30 p.m.

Members Only Toddler Sampler Programs

Considering enrolling in a members-only program?

First time attendees can find out for themselves why kids (and their grownups) love these fun, highly participatory programs led by experienced early childhood educator.
While you’re here, you can sign up for the full 12-week session ($100 for child and adult).
Tots and Blocks - Winter Session
Wednesdays, January 14 – April 1 -11 a.m.-noon
Sample program - Wednesday, January 7 at 11 a.m.
Music, Movement & Make–Believe - Winter Session
Fridays, January 16 – April 3 - 9:45 a.m.–10:45 a.m.
Sample program - Friday, January 9 at 11 a.m.


Pre-registration required
A 12-week program – $100/child
Small class size, guaranteed space
A minimum of 10 participants needed
Maximum class size is 15 children
Recommended age is 1 – 4 yrs. old

January 19 - Free Day - Cool School Holiday

January 19th is a Northfield Bank Foundation Cool School Holiday. On this Monday during Winter Recess the Museum will be open FREE to the public from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Staten Island Children's Museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and closed on Mondays, except for most school holidays.
Our hours reflect the NYC public school schedule:
Noon until 5 p.m. when NYC public schools are open.
10 a.m. until 5 p.m. when NYC public schools are closed (including weekends)
Workshops are free with paid Museum admission (unless noted)
