As winter gets closer we will begin to shift gears with our programs and thought that we would give you an update.

“Changing the Face of Staten Island” Graffiti Removal Program.

We will continue our weekly outings with both our volunteers and court ordered offenders as long as weather permits.

We currently have cleaned up over 225 locations and working with the CAU and the Borough President’s Clean Team 624 locations have been cleaned.

We have 24 offenders currently in (or completed ) the program since June they have completed over 500 hours of community service.

This includes offenders from Criminal and Family Court.

We will continue with graffiti cleanups and come u with other projects for them to complete their service requirements during the winter

We are also coordinating outings for any school or community group as well.

Flags Across Staten Island

Scott has completed 16 American Flag murals and we have two more lined up.

Shop Rite is sponsoring a mural and might sponsor a second

Duame Reade has also expressed some interest in sponsoring a few at local Little Leagues that have been tagged.

We still hope to complete 25 before winter and we will continue to recruit sponsors during the winter and hope to complete the remaining 25 before Memorial Day.

Although we have gotten nothing but compliments on the murals the response from local businesses and organizations has been less than enthusiastic when it comes to sponsoring but we will get them done.

Snow Shoveling for Seniors.

Letters went out to almost 500 students that we hope will return this year.

Unfortunately we lost nearly 150 students who are now off to college.

Letters have gone out to all schools and we are hoping to have a single point of contact at each school.

If we average 10-15 students at each school we will easily beat this year’s goal of 750 volunteers.

Re-Gifting for a Good Cause

We are asking schools businesses and community groups to collect gifts that people get and do not want.

We will pick up what is collected and distribute to needy families, injured veterans and children in hospitals

Everything we can’t distribute will be sold at a flea market with profits being used to cover shipping costs.

We are also asking schools to run toy drives to support this effort as well

Gift of Life

We are working with the NY Blood Center and attempting to help with the blood shortage.

We will give community service credit to students who donate or recruit others to donate

Replacement Grave Markers for Vets

We are waiting to hear back from the Veterans Administration in regards to our first 15 requests.

If all goes well we will schedule a date to replace these and then will start up the submission of new requests.

Vision for Staten Island

We are currently trying to recruit friends to actively take part in the important project.

Adopt a School

We are setting up a network to have Staten Island Schools adopt schools in Disaster prone areas

By setting up this network in advance we will have direct connections in the event of a disaster.

Schools impacted will contact Staten Island Schools as to what they need.

Staten Island Schools will collect what they can.

Where to Turn will ship the supplies.

We have also opened our website to all schools and organizations who wish to advertise their upcoming events or volunteer needs.

We are also looking for high school volunteers to help us expand our Crisis Relief Network which already includes over 800 links.

For full details on these and other programs go to

Any help you may lend in volunteering or donating would be welcome..

As always your support is always appreciated
