Staten Island
Veteran Grave Stone Replacement Project!

We are pleased to announce a project partnership between:

Friends of Abandoned Cemeteries Staten Island,
Where to Turn
New York State Senator Andrew Lanza

The commencement of the long awaited project of replacing the old, missing or unreadable Veteran military grave markers in Lake, Staten Island, Van Street, Fountain, Trinity, Sylvan Cemeteries as well as Sandy Ground Cemetery will start on Monday. Using the military research that FACSI has accumulated over the past decade, applications will be submitted to the Veterans Administration for replacements. Where to Turn has supplied the leadership and volunteers. Senator Lanza will provide use of his office and supplies.

We wish to thank Pat Salmon and the Staten Island Museum for their offer of allowing our volunteers use of their library if additional research is needed to complete the applications.

The end result will be hundreds of new government issue military markers that will be seen throughout Staten Island! The majority of these military markers will be that of the War of 1812, Civil War & WWI veterans.

We call on all those that have a veteran ancestor who is buried at one of the above mentioned cemeteries to contact FACSI to make sure that their ancestor is on the list for a replacement marker.

Contact: SICemetery@aol.com as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Lynn A. Rogers
Executive Director
Friends of Abandoned Cemeteries
917-545-3309 or SICemetery@aol.com
