Reps. Maloney, Nadler & Fossella Join with Firefighters & Advocates to Urge Reversal of Move to Cancel Bid to Treat WTC Responders
- Administration to Ground Zero Workers Around the Country:
No Treatment Outside NY Region -
New York, NY Tomorrow at noon, U.S. Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney, Jerrold L. Nadler and Vito J. Fossella will join with representatives of the Uniformed Firefighters Association and advocates to urge the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to reverse its decision to cancel the issuance of a Request for Contracts (RFC) to start a World Trade Center Business Processing Center to administer the World Trade Center (WTC) Medical Monitoring & Treatment Program for responders living outside the New York metropolitan area.
Currently, care is provided to WTC rescue, recovery and cleanup workers in the New York metropolitan area, with thousands of WTC responders living outside the metropolitan region being required to travel to the New York area to receive care for their WTC-related health conditions. After the WTC Medical Monitoring & Treatment Program issued a Request for Contracts to treat the thousands of responders living outside the greater New York metropolitan area, earlier this month HHS summarily halted the contracting process for a World Trade Center Business Processing Center.
Congress Members Maloney, Nadler and Fossella are joining with the UFA and other advocates to urge HHS to reverse its decision to terminate the RFC.
