As we enter our 4th year of the Snow Shoveling of Seniors Program we have good news and bad news.
The good news is that we have many students returning from last year as over 225 have signed up already.
The bad news is we lost nearly 125 volunteers from last year as students who have participated for years have now graduated and are off to college.
We are hoping to replace these students with new 7th graders.
We could use your help.
If your school, church or organization has not publicized the program please give them the attached. Although we have reached out we only have significant responses from about 4 schools on Staten Island. As in the past Monsignor Farrell, St. Peter’s Boys, St. Clare’s and St. Christopher’s make up over half of our registered volunteers.
We will work with school coordinators at their convenience.
We have over 2,000 seniors who have requested the service and it is an easy way for students to earn 10 hours of community service credit.
We will assign them a senior within walking distance from their home and they need to shovel the sidewalk and pathway to the door each time it snows.
They need only to commit to this one senior and even if it only snows a few times they will earn 10 hours.
Applications and parental consent forms can be found on our website at www.where-to-turn.org
Just click on the snow shoveler.
Anyone 13 or older is eligible to participate.
Hope you will join us as we help those seniors that have done so much to make Staten Island such a great place.
If you have any questions send us an e-mail or call us at 718-966-6531.
Thanks,
Dennis
