To All,

There was a very nice follow up story in Saturday's Staten Island Advance about the recovery of a wedding ring and its return after six years.

Wedding Band From 9/11 Victim Brings Back Lost Spirit

http://www.where-to-turn.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39832

While it is great that this ring was returned it once again points to the problems with the inventory and identification process.

We have been asking for nearly a year why the computerized inventory system built into the system is not being used.

http://www.where-to-turn.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=34382

The fact that the return of this ring was delayed because a tag had fallen off is just one example how things are being mishandled.

There is a system in place that can link every personal item that came in with a remain.

It will allow identification of remains from claimed personal items as well as allowing personal items to be returned when identifications are made.

The only problem is that this system is not being used.

No one will tell us why but some fear that it is because it may support the allegation that there is nearly a $1,000,000 and thousands of personal items missing that were originally vouchered.

Someone needs to step up to the plate and investigate the entire process.

We have the same problem with the recovery of remains.

Our count is now off by forty from the latest reconciliation report.

Our numbers come from the daily report supplied by the Mayor's Office.

Each reconciliation report comes out with a different format and new categories that were never listed on the daily updates.

It seems that there is an obvious attempt to misrepresent these findings.

Repeated attempts to reconcile have gone unanswered and we now are getting items recovered from the World Financial Center which was never in any of the recovery plans that were supplied.

Also after nearly a year since the the remains were uncovered in the manhole and 18 months after the remains were found in the Deutsche Bank building we have not gotten one identification and we do not even know if any of these remains have even been tested.

So even though we are very happy for Mr. Morabito we can only feel sorry for all of the other potential Mr. Morabitos who might never get an identification or who might never get a personal item returned because those running the operation do not have to answer to anyone.
