I had to pause when saw the picture of Mayor Boomberg in Newsday (9/24/07) while he visited Shanksville, PA. Initially it seemed appropriate for the Mayor to honor those lives that were lost on Flight 93. Those individuals deserve the utmost respect for the way they reacted. We will never know how many lives were saved as a result of their heroic actions.

However it seems hypocritical for Mr. Bloomberg to be discussing the rebuilding at the WTC and how it will "tell the story of 9/11". I wonder if "the story" will include the facts of how the remains of victims have been left in a garbage dump? What about the piece of "the story" regarding remains that continue to be found during constuction? Perhaps "the story" will reveal why major beams from the towers became part of a new road that supposedly was built with only "clean fill". What about the fate of the recovery workers as 9/11 still claims lives? How much more obvious does all of this become when we witness the tragic fire at the Deutsche Bank where regulations were disregarded, not to mention the building codes that continue to be compromised ?

So as Mr. Bloomberg, a major donator himself, begins this fundraising tour, I am haunted by how much of the truth will never be told. Sadly as the Mayor focuses on "telling the story of the freedoms of our country", he loses sight of the 9/11 victims.
