Grieving at Ground Zero

Scotch Plains, N.J.: Thank you for the Aug. 1 editorial "Ground Zero's last rites." You captured the sensitivity of the families, the city and our nation in finding the appropriate way to remember our loved ones. One sentence spoke volumes: "Grief has as much value as resilience." Let us not be afraid to show grief; it will not negate our resilience.
Diane Horning

A city still in mourning

Bronx: I believe Mayor Bloomberg has done a good job, but the 9/11 observance is an issue on which he is failing completely, and so are his advisers. As a chaplain, I know the city is still grieving. For the families of those who lost their lives that day, it is even deeper and more personal. For each person, it takes a different length of time, and how we come to terms with this terrible loss needs to be respected. Part of the process is where you go to honor the dead, the unidentified, the courageous. The fact that we are still finding body parts speaks for itself. The mayor cannot have the attitude that it's time to move on; he needs to do all in his power to help the families. The nation is watching how he handles matters of the heart and soul, not only the money.
