Two events occurred this week that go to show how little attention continues to be paid to 9/11 families at Ground Zero.

To put these events into context one must remember that we are constantly being told that the families will be part of decisions regarding Ground Zero and the recovery effort.

This week the families were made aware of three new identifications made from Ground Zero remains. They were also given yet another summary report as to the total remains recovered and identified.

Although one might look at this as full disclosure it unfortunately is not.

The current report is very ambiguous as to where the new remains were found and the summary is once again in a new format. From our records there has not been either a monthly report as promised and when the reports are released there has yet to be a standardized report.

Since these random reports have been released not one of our questions have been answered. We have been given excuses as to people being on vacation or the shifting of responsibilities preventing prompt responses.

At the least we have requested on numerous occasions the following

Original Search

Number of Remains Recovered

Number of Remains Tested

Number of Identifications made

Number of Remains Re-Tested with New Process

Number of Identifications made

New Search

Number of Remains Recovered by Location

Number of Remains Tested by Location

Number of Identifications made by Location

We would also like to see a report documenting when the tests took place and the results.

These do not seem seem like difficult requests.

We would also like the monthly reports to follow these formats so as to be consistent.

We would also ask that our questions be answered within a week of submission.

This week we were also made aware of the fact that a decision had been made to move the 9/11 ceremony from Ground Zero to an off site park.

Again this decision was made without consulting any family members and with a total disregard to how sacred and solemn the the ceremony at Ground Zero is to the 9/11 families.

A letter has been sent from members of some of the family groups addressing this issue and hopefully we will be able to hold the ceremony at the WTC site.

There is no reason that work cannot be shut down for a day so as to facilitate the ceremony.

The fact that this decision was made without family input is just another example of how the families have been left out of almost every aspect of the processes at Ground Zero.

From the recovery effort to the Memorial, decisions continued to be made by an elite group with no regard for the families of the victims.

We will not rest until this changes.
