It was reported in the New York Post today that on Monday a laptop containing "sensitive information" about 9/11 victims was stolen from the SUV of Michael DePaolo the Director of Special Operations for the ME's office.

The information contained on the laptop includes information about the discovery of new bones and remains as well as graphic photographs.

Luckily no identifications are said to be included on the stolen laptop.

We can only hope that the laptop is quickly recovered and that the contents are not disseminated over the web.

We also hope that this incident is treated more seriously than the missing personal items issue.

It has been over 6 months since the CBS report that indicated that nearly $1 Million in cash and over 1,000 personal items from Ground Zero are allegedly missing from the NYPD Property Department.

Our repeated attempts to have these allegations investigated have been rebuffed by the mayor, the NYPD and most of our elected officials.

What makes this even more disturbing is that there is a system in place that could potentially identify remains that is not being used some say because it will prove that these vouchered items and cash are missing.

One can only hope that the investigation into this missing laptop will lead to an outside investigation into the whole NYPD Property Department handling of personal items uncovered after 9/11.

We can also only hope that in the future such sensitive information would be more carefully protected.

Dennis
