Letters have been sent to all of our Staten Island High Schools asking for candidates for Where to Turn’s Second Annual Academic All County Award. We are proud to announce that we are partnering with St John’s University and all identified recipients will be honored at a ceremony in June.

Plans are underway for a ceremony in late May to honor the 632 student volunteers who participated in this year’s Snow Shoveling for Seniors Program. Date and location to follow later this month. We would like to thank North Fork Savings Bank for their support of this year’s program.

Assemblyman Michael Cusick has started us off nicely this year with a $5,000 Member Item in the Assembly to help with our Graffiti Removal and Mural Projects.

The Staten Island Rotary has generously donated $600 to support the Snow Shoveling for Seniors Program

We would also like Bernice Fischer and all of the other Staten Islanders who have continued to donate used cell phones. We sent another 75 phones to the Phones for Life Program today. Any Staten Island senior is eligible to apply for a free emergency cell phone.

We are scheduling another Graffiti Removal Outing. This time in the 123 Precinct for Saturday April 28th. Any interested student volunteer can contact us at 718-966-6531.

Tomorrow at 10:00 AM the St. Clare’s Robotics team will be cleaning up Jack’s Pond.

We are continuing with our plans for the Hearts and Hands 9/11 Memorial Complex details are available on our website.

The Staten Island Historical Society and Senator Lanza’s Office have become the newest participants in our Re-Gifting for a Good Cause Program by offering to become drop off locations. To date we have collected nearly 750 gifts.

We are continuing our efforts to get HR Bill 1861 passed and have contacted Senator Schumer’s Office for support in trying to get a sister bill introduced into the Senate.

We are also trying to help the Friends of Abandoned in there efforts to get the immigrant remains a proper burial and to assist the Grant City Civic Association with their clean ups with the NRPA.

There will be a Where to Turn night at Richmond County Yankee Stadium on September 6, 2007. We hope you will join us for a night events will be planned for all our supporters in attendance. Details on how to obtain tickets will be announced later this month.

For more information about these as well as additional volunteer and grant opportunities or if you would like to post upcoming events go to our site at www.where-to-turn.org or e-mail us at info@where-to-turn.org.

We are also looking for additional sponsors and participants for our other programs.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated

Dennis McKeon
