25 human remains recovered from Ground Zero over the past 2 days.

The numbers will increase drastically over the next few weeks as they start sifting through material that was excavated from the mid to southern end of the haul road.

More remains are also being recovered from the site of the Greek Orthodox Church.

This comes at a time when the families filed papers in court in regards to the recovery effort at Fresh Kills.

These papers included testimony by

Eric Beck, a construction worker employed at the Fresh Kills landfill in the borough of Staten Island, where the rubble was taken after the Twin Towers fell, said in his affidavit that the process of sifting through the debris was rushed.
Beck said he saw sanitation workers removing small pieces of debris containing possible bone fragments and loading them "onto tractors, and using it to pave roads and fill in potholes, dips and ruts."
The city of course had no comment stating that they do not comment on pending legal matters.

It appears they don’t comment on much. Below find some examples of questions they have refused to comment on:

Is there a detailed recovery plan at Ground Zero including protocols being used? If so can we have a copy of it?

Have all of the over 1,200 remains recovered been tested?

Why have we had not even 1 DNA match from the 1,200 remains?

How come the WTC debris recovered from the Haul Road has not been documented? (# of items etc)

How do you explain over 250 remains and thousands of pieces of debris in Fresh Fill under the haul road?

Why has there not been an outside investigation into the missing items and cash at the NYPD Property Department?

How come the computerized tracking system that could be used to identify human remains is not being employed?

Why was the haul road quickly repaved with no prior notice?

Why are we just now discovering additional conduits under West Street when we were told in October that all possible avenues were being searched?

Where is the debris from the Deutsche Bank Building?

Why does the city continue to state that everything was properly handled when every day new problems are uncovered?

How does the city expect us to believe that everything was done properly at Fresh Kills when it appears nothing was done properly at Ground Zero?

Not commenting speaks volumes about what has and continues to go on at Ground Zero.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children offers tips on keeping children safe:
  • Make sure you know where each of your children is at all times.
  • Be involved in their activities and give them lots of attention and supervision.
  • Listen to them, especially if they talk about people they don't want to be around.
  • Teach them they can say no to unwelcome actions or touching by others.
  • Be sensitive to changes in their behavior or attitudes.
  • Screen babysitters and caregivers. Check references and sexual offender registries.
