Nonprofits meet funders in match-making symposium
Staten Island community- and faith-based organizations interested in fine-tuning their fund-raising skills are invited to this year’s Meet the Grantmakers Symposium at the College of Staten Island on Friday, January 26, 2007.
This is a true match-making event: The symposium brings together the nonprofits and organizations that provide funding, so contacts can be made as both sides explain their needs and what they have to offer.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, nonprofits will pool their experiences and gain insight from the perspective of the funders who attend.
Grantmakers who will be available to meet nonprofit organizations include The Staten Island Foundation; Richmond County Savings Foundation; Verizon; JP Morgan Chase; Black Equity Alliance; Daphne Foundation; Macy’s; New York Foundation; New York City Department of Youth & Community Development; Con Edison; Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation; Union Square Awards; United Way of New York City; Dreams For Kids and Council on the Arts & Humanities of Staten Island.
Patricia Swann, Program Officer of New York Community Trust, will receive special recognition and the 5th Annual Community Capacity-Building Award, and will deliver the keynote remarks.
The invited corporations will then take part in a panel presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and after lunch participants will split up into capacity-building workshops from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the following topics:
Rewarding and Recognizing Nonprofit Staff with Limited Resources, presented by Community Resource Exchange
Grant-Seeking Basics, presented by Charlotte Dion, Foundation Center
A Dialogue with Staten Island Nonprofit Association, presented by Ken Popler, SINPA Board Chair
A Needs Assessment meeting with nonprofits that are participating with the Richmond County Savings Foundation’s Technical Assistance Program, presented by Laureen Henry, RCSF, & Valerie Oliver-Durrah, NTAC
We hope to see you at this event. Please contact us at 718-455-3784 to let us know to expect you, and feel free to invite co-workers and friends in the nonprofit community. Together we can share our ideas and frustrations, and gather strength and information to guide us and our organizations.
