Dear US Congress:

Currently the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a one way toll which many commuters use for various activites such as work, truck delievers, buses, and shopping outside Staten Island.

While traffic across the city from various bridges, and tunnels continues to increase to alarming levels. Adding a second toll to pay for going to Staten Island, and going to Brooklyn would only delay traffic even more. On any given day traffic can start as early as 4 P.M, and last until 8 P.M. With ever growing amounts of work on the Verrazano causing delays in off peak hours as well as weekends adding a second toll may only increase road rage, accidents, and the delay of trucks using the bridge for various vital delieveries across the city and New Jersey.

If we can look into the additions of more hov bus lanes, a solution for increased ez pass usage, increased mass transportation (such as the proposed Bayonne Bus, and increase in ferry service going to Brooklyn, Battery Park, and New Jersey may help decrease the amount of traffic not just on the Verrazano, but all bridges across the city and elsewhere.

I sympathize with your concerns, but at this time for the many workers, trucks, mass transportation, drivers who commute to and from work, or other activities bringing back the two way toll would only punnish long suffering commuters who rely on this bridge for their only connection to Staten Island from Brooklyn and elsewhere via car or transit.

I ask you to seriously take a look at this before passing any bill dealing with this matter as you have the hands of many commuters in the palm of your hands.
