From Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:00 am to Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:59 am (included)
|The Port Authority announced last night that it was closing the haul road to truck traffic to help facilitate the search efforts.
This would be good news if we knew what the search efforts were.
We have been calling for a complete excavation of the haul road and the site of the Greek Orthodox Church for months.
The City has yet to agree to either.
On December 29, 2006 the mayor’s office released a report that exploratory excavation of the haul road had uncovered “the appearance of what could be WTC-related debris”
This was after numerous items were uncovered that were most definitely from the site, even an ID card.
Then and now the city has not committed to the complete excavation of the road.
They have also only committed to test drillings of the site of the Church.
They only state that they are expanding their search.
We still have not seen a copy of the search plan.
We still have not seen a copy of the protocols being used.
And it is not as if we haven’t asked.
Now that they have closed the road here are a few questions.
Is there going to be a total excavation of the road and the site of the Church?
What is the scope of work?
Are you digging down to the original West Street?
Are you digging deeper in areas where the debris breached the original road an additional 30 to 40 feet?
Is anyone looking into the fact that all of the material in the area between the original road and the new blacktop should have been fresh fill?
Is anyone even questioning why we are finding WTC debris and human remains in what should be fresh fill?
Had we had an outside agency coordinating this search these questions would already be answered.
To date not one has been addressed by the city.
Maybe we will get something this afternoon, after all it is Friday.
