The letter below has been sent to Governor Spitzer

Governor Eliot Spitzer
State Capital
Albany, N.Y. 12224

January 4, 2007

Dear Governor Spitzer,

As members of various 9/11 Family Groups that have been working to find a workable solution to the many problems that have been associated with the rebuilding at Ground Zero, we are very encouraged to hear that you will be taking an active role in the process.

Contrary to what has been publicized, the families are not against the redevelopment of the WTC site. Like you, we would rather see a monument to those who died that day than a monument to government gridlock.

This will never be accomplished unless all of the stakeholders are involved, including the 9/11 families.

You stated in your State of the State speech that you “cannot accept that more than five years after the attacks of September 11th, progress is only starting to be made.”

We cannot accept that more than five years after the attacks of September 11th, that human remains are still being found.

As you were making your speech 9 more human remains were uncovered at the site in an area that should have been searched months ago.

Our concerns have been dismissed by Mayor Bloomberg, as have our calls for an outside agency to be brought in to conduct a comprehensive and thorough search at no cost to the city.

We would like to schedule a meeting with you at your earliest convenience to discuss the current situation at Ground Zero, as well as the unresolved issues of Fresh Kills and the WTC Memorial.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Dennis McKeon Marie Corrigan Sally Regenhard Wilton Sekzer
Rosaleen Tallon Maureen Shay Robert J. Shay Jr. James Shay
Diane Horning Maureen Surko Eileen Martinez Kathleen Passantino
Kurt Horning Leanne Shay Carolyn Shay Michael Shay

Anthony Gardner Carol Freund Patricia Sumner Tim Sumner
Peter Gadiel Andrew Arias Jean Canavan Marie Mitchell
Monica Gabrielle Albert Petrocelli Ginger Petrocelli Rev. Bill Minson
Debora Jackson Marian Fontana John Feal Freyda Markow
Nancy Seitz Bill Maher Jr. Jeanne Evans Donna Dlugo
