The Mayor has announced a change in the listing of the names on the WTC Memorial.

Once again this decision was made behind closed doors with the input from a selected few.

The decision was quickly approved by the WTC Memorial Board which surprising enough is headed by Mayor Bloomberg.

This current decision while a step in the right direction in no way addresses the issues that 9/11 families continue to have with the listing of names and the Memorial itself.

This is once again an example of what is wrong with the entire process.

One just has to look at the history.

The names will be listed underground (end of story)

The names will be listed randomly (end of story)

Both of these things have been changed only because of the continued efforts of the 9/11 families to get things right.

Better proposals for the listing of names have been submitted and been ignored.

As for the mayor's statement that it is time to move forward one only has to look back a few years. He made the same statement when he deemed the recovery effort completed.

The events of the past few months have proved what a great idea that was.

We do not have all of the answers but neither does the mayor.

All we want is that this be an open and democratic process as had been promised.

The process cannot continue behind closed doors with decisions being made and set in stone before they are even presented for discussion.

We must not always be put in the position of having to react to surprise announcements.

As long as the mayor is the only one making the decisions that will never be the case.
