|Most importantly our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burlingame family. Wendy Burlingame, daughter of 9/11 pilot Charles "Chic" Burlingame (AA fl. 77) and niece of Debra Burlingame, was killed in a horrible fire in New Jersey.
No remains uncovered today.
Going is very slow as they only extended the trench by about 10 feet.
It has been confirmed that they will be expanding the width of the trench to five feet.
There was a story circulating earlier that the Port Authority was going to outsource their part of the search.
We have been told that the search will continue to be conducted by FDNY, NYPD, ME Staff and city employees. The Port Authority has not been a part of the search team and have only been supplying a minimal PA police presence. (Not even sure they have been present recently)
There will be contractors used to bring in equipment and to transport the material but the actual search process will not be outsourced.
We will let you know if this changes.
The Water Street location is still on schedule for a 12/18 opening.
No reports at all on the test drillings or the additional rooftop searches. We do not believe that they are being conducted at this time.
Hopefully this is not a stalling tactic because they will not be able to search the rooftops once snow moves in.
Looks like the sifted remains will be moved to Fresh Kills, although this is not confirmed and the same company will be handling the procedure.
We will keep you posted.
