|Nothing uncovered today.
Con Edison cannot get the material to the testers fast enough due to DEP testing etc so there will be no searching tomorrow.
Searching will resume on Wednesday 7:00 AM.
To date only two manholes have been cleared.
The following is the procedure as explained to us.
After the remains were found in the first two manholes a process was set up to remove the soil and fill above the remaining manholes.
For the last week this fill was removed and searched for remains.
The remaining manholes are now ready to be searched.
The contents of the manholes will be tested by DEP.
When DEP gives the green light the manholes will be completely emptied and the material removed will be searched and tested.
Many of the remaining manholes are cracked and unsafe for a physical search.
For areas where a manual search cannot be completed the remains will be removed mechanically.
All searches are being observed with a video feed with a secondary recorded feed taking place as a backup.
The video taping will continue until each manhole is completely empty.
The offsite testing facility has yet to be established.
Preliminary searches were also conducted on West Street today but nothing was uncovered.
It appears that West Street was not breeched by the falling debris as the fill below it appears to be clean.
The service road is another story and most involved in the search believe that if excavated that remains and WTC articles will be uncovered.
Excavation of the service road is still being stonewalled at this point by the LMCCC.
The manhole inside the gate at the south west corner of the site (west of where the Greek Orthodox Church stood) is filled to the brim with items.
The team is very anxious to get at this site as it appears that there is a good chance of remains being found there.
If that is the case it might force the city’s hand to excavate the Greek Orthodox Church which is in close proximity to this manhole.
Hopefully the media will continue to cover this.
Also expect a major development in the personal items area as we have been told that the s%@t is about to hit the fan.
We can still use some personal accounts of the initial search.
