|We have gotten a lot of feedback over the last few days. This is particularly interesting and concerns the sewers surrounding Ground Zero.
We have been told by a former employee that the DEP was ordered to clear all surrounding sewers of debris about a month and a half after the collapse.
When asked if there was a forensic component to the project he explained that everything was considered as debris and they were not instructed to look for remains.
He said “that there were probably all kinds of body parts in there that got loaded onto barges and taken off and dumped”
When asked if these barges went to Fresh Kills he said that he did not know where they went.
Someone needs to check with DEP about this project to assure that what was removed was brought to Fresh Kills.
There were 63 barges used specifically to bring material to Fresh Kills. I am told that each trip made by each of these barges was logged with a detailed inventory of what they contained and from where its contents were recovered.
If this was done independently and not considered part of the recovery effort there is no guarantee that this material ever got to Fresh Kills.
Even if the material did get to Fresh Kills because a forensic search was not done after the removal whatever remains might have been left have most likely been washed away.
The sewers still need to be checked
We would appreciate it if someone would take the lead on this and get some answers as our resources are limited.
