From Thu Oct 26, 2006 2:00 am to Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:59 am (included)
|There were 9 human remains uncovered today bringing the total to 201.
There were also numerous personal items recovered as well.
It is important to note that all of these remains have come from just one manhole.
They will now begin to work on the other locations.
Questions have been asked about who is in charge and on paper it is the Mayor's Office under the direction of Ed Skyler.
If you ask people who are working down there, they don't have a clue as to who is actually in charge.
The process is that they still have Con Edison workers cleaning out the manhole and passing the material to a team to look for remains.
A forensic expert is then responsible to make sure that no remains are in the manhole.
There have been reports that the mayor will be presented with a plan to extend the search for remains.
This was not discussed at yesterday's meeting but may have come from the closed door meetings that took place with various agencies prior to the meeting.
It is important to note that this expanded search will not include the search of any buildings surrounding Ground Zero with the possible exception of Liberty Plaza and Fiterman Hall.
They still contend that a search of the roofs of surrounding buildings is unnecessary.
There is a meeting scheduled with the Mayor tomorrow.
Once again family groups are not invited at this time.
