From Wed Oct 25, 2006 2:00 am to Fri Oct 27, 2006 1:59 am (included)
As we have been posting our updates we have received feedback from family members we thought that it would be appropriate to share it as well.
Before we post the feedback I would like to add to today’s update.
Included in today’s 43 remains were 12 items that included hair and scalp. It just seemed to be odd that there was should a high percentage of thse types of remains in today’s finds.
My Mom spoke with Ada at Bloomberg's office who stated that he plans on meeting w/ families.
Mom stated advance notice is required, not 15 minutes, as is seems their policy is to stop the families from attending.
Ada gave Mom an email address to send her concerns, which is nice if she had a computer.
Mom also tried Steve at the PA and was then referred to the ANTHOULA of the LMDC.
Guess we knew where this was going.
Mom's been calling everyday.
Who is going to be held responsible for closing the site too soon?
When is a contract going to be signed to bring in the other org. to search all of the WTC sites and surrounding areas?
Who is going to be held responsible for the emotional, mental and physical damage this has done to the families?
When can we expect Fresh Kills landfill to be excavated to locate remains? Hire the sifting company again? Talk to them?
Where did the other trucks go (Pennsylvania?)? Barges – where they all went?
Who is going to be held responsible for the Fresh Kills scandal? Before they cover that up with fresh fill and call it a “park”.
Who is going to monitor the asbestos flavored water running off the Fresh Kills landfill site that is polluting the waters off of Staten Island?
What are the ramifications of this run off to S.I. residents?
When is the East River going to be searched for remains?
Who decided Fresh Kills was a good enough spot to dump them and why?
How long to families have to deal with this?
Who is going to be held responsible for the emotional, mental and physical damage this revelation and previous Fresh Kills atrocities have done to the families?
Why is this not front-page news? We read about bodies being found in Iraq in mass graves and we are horrified. How is this not horrifying the world?
Below is a link which lists all the firms involved in the downtown rescue/recovery along with an interview with the man in charge of the entire operation. It was done under the NYC Department of Design and Construction. Then DDC Commissioner, Ken Holden, put Michael Burton in charge of the day-to-day operations. He was the overlord. DDC had budget authority, hiring/firing authority. They controlled access to the site and could kick anybody they wanted to off the site. They set the timetable. Mike Burton became a big hero for bringing the job in early and 50% under budget. He left govt when the recovery was over and is now an executive with URS Corp. in NYC.
The current DDC Commissioner is David Burney, installed in Jan. 2004. It is disconcerting that the mayor is talking about having this same agency put in charge of a new search operation, because it this agency most responsible for insisting that the search end prematurely, for ignoring the pleas of firefighters and others who believed the search wasn't done. In other words, even though the personnel changed, they have the most to hide. After the site was closed, it was LMDC calling the shots (re Deutche Bank). Construction workers and others who worked the site say the West St service road was created entirely from site fill. Fact. It is probably loaded with remains.
