WHAT:

U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), co-chairs of the Honorary Congressional Advisory Board of the 9/11 nonprofit group One Day's Pay, will be joined by U.S. Rep. Michael A. Ferguson (R-N.J.) and others in Washington to urge President George Bush to officially proclaim 9/11 as a national day of charitable service and good deeds.

They will also discuss plans to encourage other members of Congress to pledge to perform good deeds in observance of the fifth anniversary of 9/11. These efforts are part of the national myGoodDeed campaign ( http://www.myGoodDeed.org ) organized by One Day's Pay, launched Aug. 16, encouraging people to observe the fifth anniversary of 9/11 by pledging to perform at least one good deed to help others. TV and radio PSAs are currently running nationally urging people to visit the myGoodDeed Web site and post their good deeds for 9/11. The group also will speak on its new national online media partnerships with AOL ( http://www.aimpages.com/mygooddeed ) and MySpace ( http://www.myspace.com/mygooddeed ). In 2004, Rep. King and Sen. Schumer co-authored and secured unanimous passage of H. Con. Res. 473 expressing congressional support for proclaiming 9/11 as a national day of voluntary service. Since its inception in 2003, the One Day's Pay/myGoodDeed movement has attracted more than three million people.
