“This morning the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation Executive Committee met with Governor Pataki to discuss our collective efforts towards building the Memorial and Museum. We had a productive meeting and are confident that the process outlined by the Governor and the Mayor to achieve cost clarity on the project is well underway. We share the Governor and Mayor’s belief that the costs for the Memorial and Museum must be capped at $500 million and we look forward to continuing to contribute to Frank Sciame’s process of resolving cost and design issues. The Governor reiterated his belief that governmental sources should be used to build the necessary infrastructure for the site and the fundraising responsibility of the Foundation is to raise money for the Memorial and Museum.

“Based on today’s meeting, we are eager to move forward with fundraising. Upon the expected resolution of cost and finality of design, our fundraising efforts will be large-scale, focusing on both the general public and major donors. We plan to launch our national advertising campaign in early July, coupled with a grassroots fundraising campaign.”

Thomas S. Johnson, Chairman of the Executive Committee, “As we approach the 5th anniversary, we hope that everyone will remember that September 11th was a day which impacted so many people’s lives and changed the world forever. Building this Memorial will require the participation of many and we are confident that people across the country and around the world will join our efforts.”
