WHERE TO TURN
ON BEHALF OF
THE SKYSCRAPER SAFETY CAMPAIGN
ADVOCATES FOR 9/11 FALLEN HEROES:
CALLS ON MAYOR BLOOMBERG TO REMOVE THE LOWER MANHATTAN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FROM ITS INVOLVEMENT AT THE DEUTCHE BANK BUILDING
With the release of information that 74 human bone fragments have been uncovered by LMDC construction workers this past weekend it is apparent that the LMDC is not properly handling the cleanup effort at this location.
The fact that the remains were unearthed by construction workers and that the information was not made public for five days once again shows that the LMDC is not properly fulfilling its responsibilities in regards to the ongoing efforts at Ground Zero. One wonders if this information would even have been released if not requested by a family member.
Any further investigation at this location should be under the auspices of the Medical Examiner’s Office and under the supervision of trained forensic experts not construction workers. We request that a team from the Medical Examiner’s Office be placed at this location full time for the remainder of the demolition to handle any additional remains unearthed by the forensic experts.
Proper inspection by trained experts from an agency outside the LMDC should be conducted prior to any further demolition taking place.
We do not want to see a repeat of what happened with the fines at Fresh Kills.
We believe that Rosaleen Tallon spoke for the majority of the 9/11 families when she stated “We need to continue to make sure that financial interests are not coming before the preservation of human dignity”
