To All,

President Bush asked Congress for $72.4 billion in emergency funds for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of this money $3.5 billion would go to the Embassy in Baghdad and other government operations as well as to help rebuild the infrastructure and improve the economy of Iraq. While I think it is imperative that we give whatever it takes to protect our soldiers in combat I think that it is outrageous that we can ask for $3.5 Billion to rebuild Iraq but cannot get a penny from the government to build necessary hospitals for the critically injured soldiers coming home. It has been left up to private citizen donations to raise the $10 Million needed to build it.
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is constructing a world-class state-of-the-art advanced training skills facility at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The center will serve military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The center will also serve military personnel and veterans severely injured in other operations and in the normal performance of their duties, combat and non-combat related.

The center will encompass a 60,000 square foot structure, providing ample space and facilities for the rehabilitation needs of the patients and their caregivers. It will be constructed on a site sufficient in size to meet the needs of the centerís patients and caregivers and will include $3.5 million in top of the line indoor and outdoor facilities.

Thanks to the support of Don Imus they have nearly raised the money needed to complete the hospital. This is being done without one penny from the Federal Government. We can spend $3.5 Billion to rebuild Iraq. Hell we can even donate a mobile Army hospital for earthquake relief but we canít spare a dime for our injured soldiers.

We have said it before but we will say it again. Why canít Congress slip in one of their earmarks that they are so good at requiring that 5% or even 1% of the total package for military aid for Iraq and Afghanistan be allocated for Military Hospitals and benefits. Letís do the math for this package alone.

Total 5% 1%

72.4 Billion 3.6 Billion 724 Million

Even if we did it for the Rebuilding of Iraq portion

Total 5% 1%

3.5 Billion 175 Million 35 Million

At 1% of the rebuilding Iraq portion of this request alone we would be able to build 3 of these hospitals and have money to spare for other veteran benefits such as relocation benefits for widows who are forced to move off bases after their husbands are killed in combat.

Well both you and I know that unfortunately this is never going to happen but we must keep trying. In the meantime please go to the link below and donate to the Fallen Heroes Fund. At least we can do for our soldiers what our government wont.
