To All,

Please read the article below. We are already getting the PA Shuffle. This was to be expected. All along they have stated that their codes were stricter but now they say that they will follow the “stricter NYC Codes”. Under their codes the original towers were built without sprinklers and the insulation used on the beams was not required to pass the tests required by the NYC Fire codes. Even if they agree to abide by the codes they can be not held accountable for any violations nor are they required to allow FDNY and NYC Building Inspectors to inspect the site.

This was to be expected and we need to continue to push to have the Port Authority to give up its exemptions before they are allowed to build.

Below is a letter sent to Governor Pataki

Dear Governor Pataki,

We were pleased to hear that the Port Authority has agreed to give up its exemptions to the NYC Fire and Building codes at the World Trade Center site.

This statement was made at an LMDC Family Advisory Committee meeting on January 24, 2006 by James Kallstrom, your Senior Advisor on Counter Terrorism. 9/11 Family Group leaders in attendance reported feeling greatly encouraged by his remarks.

Would it be possible to forward to us a copy of the agreement signed by the representatives of the Port Authority stating this?

Unfortunately many promises have been made in the past to the 9/11 families concerning the rebuilding at Ground Zero and many of them have not been kept.

I am sure that many of the 9/11 families would like to see a signed agreement that the Port Authority and any businesses contracted by them will be required to build according to the NYC Fire and Building codes and that the site will be open to inspection by Fire and Building Department Inspectors with the Port Authority responsible to correct any violations found.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter as it means so much to the 9/11 families.

The copy of the agreement can be sent to me at this address or you can post it on your website and we will link to it.

Dennis McKeon
