Now let me get this straight. The Governor and the Mayor are now behind the Port Authority building the WTC Memorial and Museum. This is the same Port Authority that still refuses to abide by the New York City Fire and Building Codes. The same Port Authority that swore to the families that the footprints would be respected at the same time they were planning the transportation hub on the same footprints with additional transit lines to come. The same Port Authority that should not even be involved in commercial real estate as they were created to monitor our bridges and tunnels and the Port of NY. What does this have to do with the Memorial? They should never have been involved with the WTC in the first place.

This should be a classic for the "Lost Art of Common Sense" section. Take your choice--do 'ya think the politicians have lost their common sense or do 'ya think they are great magicians with a couple of tricks up their sleeves, do 'ya think??!!

PA POWER GRAB

November 23, 2005 -- AFTER four years of inept state leadership that has failed to get shovels in the ground at Ground Zero, a bold Mayor Bloomberg recently told the public it was time to re-evaluate the redevelopment plans. While I wish him well in his crusade, I caution him to be wary of that arrogant bureaucratic maze lurking in the shadows of lower Manhattan the Port Authority.

Commentary by George J. Marlin a former executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

I believe that if we really want to honor the firefighters who died we need to fully support the issue of adequate building codes for the City of New York and enforcement by the FDNY. If the FDNY had one their battle for NYC building codes to apply to the World Trade Center, there would not have been so many deaths.

Respect for firefighters starts with respect for their work and their contribution to NYC.

Their has been little accountability on the part of the PA on the issue of their weak building standards.
