VISION FOR STATEN ISLAND

Vision for Staten Island is a community initiative to bring together citizens and public and private leaders from throughout the borough to create an inclusive and comprehensive vision for the future. The vision will identify shared goals for all aspects of the Island’s life, and specific steps to implement each goal. Vision for Staten Island is a process of continuous refinement of the ideas gathered from the public. The first step in refining the content of the vision is to organize the ideas into topics, identify basic themes within each topic, and construct a draft vision statement for each topic. The second step in the refinement process is to address questions raised by the ideas and themes. This is done by conducting the Reality Check workshops and by inviting experts as well as the public to the workshops. The third step is to convene Topical Workgroups. These groups will meet for several months and will strategize the vision by identifying specific implementation steps. At the end of the process, the vision will be presented to the public at the Staten Island Congress. There the vision will be ratified and prioritized. What started as a broad canvassing of ideas and opinions will become an agreed upon, compelling, and implementable blueprint for the future of Staten Island.
